Located in the heart of a residential area, the project encompasses the phased renovation and expansion of a school campus serving kindergarten through high school.
The primary organizing element of the plan is the creation of an identity for each school component. The design features a variety of gathering and play areas and a unified system of covered walks connecting all facilities within the campus. Landscape is used to complement the architectural framework of the campus and create an organizing element for the classrooms and outdoor spaces. Strongly influenced by geography, the design incorporates a regional architectural and landscape vocabulary, including a native, drought-resistant, low maintenance landscape palette. The region’s strong contrasts of sun and shade are emphasized in the play of light in the covered walkways and open spaces.
