Stamford Hospital’s multi-phased hospital expansion and renovation project addresses several large-scale challenges and integrates the 12-hectare (30-acre) hospital site with the adjacent community and the city at large through a natural greenbelt.
The design explores nature’s role in individual, community and environmental health. The plan incorporates a number of landscape initiatives throughout the hospital campus but of critical importance was the interface between the hospital, the surrounding community and several citywide economic and environmental initiatives. Landscape is used as a community organizer to re-establish the community fabric and link the hospital to the surrounding neighborhoods, complement the city’s economic revitalization efforts, and expand upon regional water quality initiatives.
Stamford Hospital is seeking LEED silver certification.
