Located in a 62-acre wooded sanctuary, Earthplace is an environmental education, research, and wildlife rehabilitation center that also operates preschool and summer camp programs. The masterplan establishes a recreational and educational trail system based on the principles of Universal Design. The completed trail system offers two distinct experiences, which can be chosen by the users according to their abilities and interests. The first trail accommodates a range of individual abilities and levels of strength and stamina, awareness, orientation, and sunlight sensitivity. This trail provides a level gradient, a smooth surface, and frequent areas for resting. The second trail offers users greater challenges and additional experiences. The entire trail system includes non-visual cues to special features and trail intersections to provide guidance for the visually impaired.
