Cornell University: Stocking Hall

Ithaca, New York

The Stocking Hall landscape ties directly into Cornell University’s masterplan and the related efforts to enhance the pedestrian experience on Tower Road. A new bus stop is located near the main entry where the building façade recedes from the street to create an outdoor terrace and a place to enjoy goods from Stocking Hall’s Dairy Bar. A grade change and a line of multi-stem trees create a separation from the street while allowing views of passersby, and an observation gallery on Tower Road allows people to observe dairy manufacturing operations. The courtyard to the south includes lawns, seating areas, and a shade trellis for outdoor activities. Extensive use of pervious concrete facilitates stormwater infiltration throughout the project.
