150 Charles Penthouse

New York, New York

Walking along the West Village’s quaint streets, hints of green hang over the ledge of this LEED Gold building’s 17th story rooftop garden. With over 2000 sq ft of private rooftop space, and two lower level terraces, this residential garden is an oasis in the urban environment. The garden frames key views of New York’s iconic skyline and the Hudson River. The rooftop terrace responds to the harsh climate and ecology of urban alpine conditions, utilizing plantings selected to withstand significant wind conditions and harsh sunlight. Sweeps of native grasses and meadow plantings soften the modern architecture, while sculptural dwarf evergreens offer winter interest and frame iconic views.

The rooftop includes cantilevered arbors that cast shadow patterns across raked marble stone wall cladding. A sleek roof canopy provides much needed respite from the sun and rain, while providing a place of gathering and entertainment.

Hardscape materials compose a muted palette of sandblasted marble pavers, ipe wood decking, blackened stainless-steel planters and organic clay planters. Amenities include a spa clad in Onondaga limestone, as well as a full feature kitchen and bar with marble countertops and state of the art appliances. Residents are able to enjoy the rooftop during summer’s heat with an outdoor shower, and during cool weather by warming themselves near the fire pit table. A custom dining table seats up to twelve for large events and an outdoor sectional allows this large family to gather and enjoy the views.
