Camphill Ghent Elder Care Initiative

Chatham, New York

Camphill is an innovative model of community-based elder care that creates an open and welcoming environment desirable to a wide community of elders and their families. Following an interactive dialogue with residents of a nearby Camphill Village, Dirtworks developed a site plan strategy to minimize site disturbance, capture the great views of the Hudson Valley landscape, and provide a framework for future expansion. An extensive pedestrian path network, pedestrian precincts around the townhouses, and outdoor living and working spaces around the adult home encourage environmental stewardship and promote community health. The planting strategy preserves native vegetation and accommodates future planting phases. Camphill Ghent is a LEED Gold for Homes project.
